Benefits of Drinking Tea – Discover The Many Health Benefits of Tea

Benefits of Drinking Tea – From Black to White and Don’t forget Green

Benefits of Drinking Tea

Tea has been regarded as a key to good health, wisdom and happiness for thousands of years in the East – why it took so long for the West to catch up to this knowledge I’ll never know, but the benefits of drinking tea are undeniable.

Drinking tea has been shown to help with cancer, heart disease, weight loss, diabetes, lowering cholesterol and bringing mental clarity and alertness. An added benefit also is that tea has antimicrobial qualities.

What Are Antimicrobial Qualities You Ask?

Well, quite simply having the capability of destroying or inhibiting the growth of disease-causing microorganisms (bacteria, virus, etc.).

Unlike with Coffee (and yes there are some health benefits to coffee as well – we aren’t dissing coffee here!), but unlike coffee, there is no downside to tea (as coined by American Dietetic Association spokeswoman Katherine Tallmadge, MA, RA, LD.)

“I think it’s a great alternative to coffee drinking. First, tea has less caffeine. It’s pretty well established that the compounds in tea – their flavonoids – are good for the heart and may reduce cancer.”

What Are The Benefits of Drinking Tea Daily and What Kinds Are Best?

Any tea is good tea, however nutritionists prefer brewed teas over bottled so you avoid the extra calories and sweeteners. The main teas to be steeping in your cup for maximum health benefits include green, black and white tea however, oolong and pu-erh are wonderful as well. These teas are all derived from the Camellia sinensis plant (a shrub found in China and India that contains unique antioxidants called flavonoids.)

And an important note – the main four: green, black, white and oolong are the only things considered real tea. Anything else, such as herbal tea, is an infusion of a different plant (other than Camellia Sinensis) and isn’t technically considered tea.

The Health Benefits of Drinking Tea Include:

– fighting free radicals that can contribute to cancer, heart disease and clogged arteries
– heightened mental alertness (thanks to caffeine and theanine)

Green Tea Benefits: (when made with steamed tea leaves)
– high concentratation of EGCG
– antioxidants may interfere with the growth of bladder, breast, lung, stomach, pancreatic and colorectal cancers
– prevents clogging of arteries
– helps burn fat
– counteracts oxidative stress on your brain
– reduces the risk of neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease
– reduces your risk of stroke
– improves cholesterol levels
– improves bone mineral density and strength

Black Tea Benefits: (when made with fermented tea leaves)
– highest caffeine content and may protect lungs from damage caused by cigarette smoke
– may also reduce the risk of stroke

White Tea Benefits: (uncured and unfermented)
– most potent anticancer properties when compared to more processed teas

Oolong Tea Benefits:
– possibly lowers bad cholesterol levels
– Wuyi also heavily marketed as a weight loss supplement (not backed by science…yet)

Pu-erh Tea Benefits: (made from fermented and aged leaves)
– In an animal study, those given pu-erh had less weight gain and reduced LDL cholesterol.

Top 10 Health Benefits of Drinking Tea:

1. The antioxidants in tea help protect your body from aging and effects of pollution.

2. Tea contains less caffeine than coffee. Coffee tends to have two to three times the caffeine than tea. An eight-ounce cup of coffee contains about 135 mg of caffeine; whereas tea only has between 30-40 mg per cup.

3. Reduced risk of heart attack and stroke – blood clots formed from cholesterol and blood platelets can cause heart attack and stroke. Tea can help keep your arteries smooth and clog-free.

4. Want Stronger Bones? Studies have shown that tea drinkers who drank tea for 10 or more years had stronger bones than non-drinkers.

5. Great for your teeth! Tea contains flouride and tannins that help keep plaque at bay.

6. Raises your immune system so you can fight off infection and stay healthy!

7. Protects against cancer. Polyphenols, the antioxidants in tea are cancer fighters!!

8. Helps keep you hydrated. Although in the past tea used to be on the list of beverages that didn’t contribute to your daily fluid needs because of the caffeine – more recent studies show that caffeine is only an issue if you drink more than 5 or 6 cups of a caffeinated beverage at one time.

9. Calorie free! Tea doesn’t have any calories unless you add sweetener or milk. So drink up! And lose weight πŸ™‚

10. Increases metabolism. If you have a slow metabolic rate or are having difficulty losing weight, green tea has been shown to increase metabolism.Benefits of Drinking Black Tea

So as you can see, the list of the benefits of drinking tea is long. The health benefits of tea are undeniable and from personal experience, having been a long time tea drinker, I can tell you that I always feel better when it is included in my diet. I’m not a big coffee drinker, never was because the caffeine either made me jittery or sleepy, weird I know.

For me, knowing that I’m doing my body good while drinking a nice hot cup of tea just makes me smile πŸ™‚ It’s a great part of my day.

Are you a tea drinker yet? If so, what’s your favorite kind? If not, are you going to start? Please leave your comments below!

Thanks πŸ™‚

Discover The Best Diet To Lose Weight Fast – It’s My Little Secret

Best Foods to Lose Weight

People who struggle with weight loss often want to know, “what’s the best diet to lose weight?”

My answer: No Diet. Unless you are thinking of the word “diet” the right way. A diet should not be something you do to get fast results – to undo damage from years of bad eating habits. It shouldn’t be something you plan on doing just “until” the weight goes off.

A diet – by the right definition simply should mean: what you eat. Your lifestyle.

If you are here wanting to know which diet you should go on to lose some weight, then that means your current “diet”, or eating habits, are perhaps not what they should be.

No worries. We can fix that and have you on the way to a healthier, happier you in no time at all. How can I sound so confident? Because I have the answers to your questions and if you truly want to lose that weight and keep it off you’ll keep on reading πŸ˜‰

Be warned: What I’m about to reveal is not a fad. It is not a program. It is not something you have to buy. It doesn’t even really have a name…I don’t think. Maybe I should name it πŸ™‚ Although, I didn’t invent it or anything. My current lifestyle/diet is something I spent a few years learning and figuring out. And the result, a healthier, leaner, more fit me than I ever thought possible.

So let’s get to it.

How I Discovered The Best Way To Lose Weight Fast

For me, the best diet to lose weight was found by accident. I wasn’t even trying to lose weight. I didn’t even really have any weight to lose, not really…or so I thought. I had just had my second child, my first had left me more overweight than I’d ever been (not for lack of exercise or trying, the hormones got me! Those darn hormones!) Anyway, it took me a couple of years to lose the weight with my first child. With my second I didn’t gain much weight at all and was practically back to my usual weight before I even got home from the hospital. It was weird. But I wasn’t going to complain.

Enter The New Diet

I decided to change my eating habits one day when I was watching something on T.V. and was introduced to Dr. Mark Hyman. If you don’t know who that is, I highly suggest checking out his book.

In his book he suggested eliminating wheat and dairy from your diet for 6 weeks, just to SEE if you had a problem with either of those foods. I had been eating those two foods my whole life and didn’t think I had an issue, but for 6 weeks I was game to just SEE.

What I discovered astounded me! Not only did I HAVE a problem with those two food groups, I actually had a SERIOUS problem with them.

I found out that dairy made me angry. Yeah, I know. Weird right? Anyway, I’m not talking a little angry, but REALLY angry. I used to have mood swings and get upset. But I never realized how upset I was until I was no longer upset.

Wheat, I discovered made my face break out and made my tummy hurt. It made my husband’s nose plug up…he never knew this until he went off of it and suddenly could BREATHE, go figure.

So yeah, we didn’t have any allergies in the sense that it was going to kill us, but I can tell you that we felt a heck of a lot better NOT eating those two food groups.

You probably think it was hard to eliminate them from our diet. And yes, at first it was because they were a HUGE part of our diet. But in no time at all, and with the help of his book, I discovered a new way of eating and knew what to look for in labels and foods and MOST importantly, what to avoid!

So I am now on a gluten free diet. I never in a million years planned to be or thought I needed to be. But because I feel better, it’s a CHOICE. Because I like to feel good. Don’t you?

I had already been a low weight, an ideal weight. Fit, healthy, even after having my second child. But during those 6 weeks, I lost 10 MORE POUNDS! Quickly.

The Most Important Factor of A Good Diet

The most important factor of a good diet, your new lifestyle, isn’t the label you give it. It isn’t to say, I’m vegan, or vegetarian, or “gluten free”. No, the most important factor of a good diet is to eat REAL, FRESH FOODS.

Processed foods are simply not good for you. You can get away with eating certain things that are not homemade, especially after you start eliminating a lot of the junk that most people eat on a daily basis, but the key to losing weight and keeping it off is to simply eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, lean meats and remove one of the worst things from your diet you can possibly eat.

Can you guess what that is?

If you don’t believe me, although I highly doubt you are disagreeing. Take a look at the chart. Numbers don’t lie and the statistics say that the average American in 1822 consumed about 45g of sugar, the amount found in 1 12-ounce can of soda, every 5 days vs. an average of 765g consumed now, every 5 days. That’s roughly 17 cans!!US Sugar Consumption 1822-2010

Don’t start to panic though. You can still have sweet things. I do. You just learn to limit the BAD sugar and find sweetness in other ways. It can be done, and it isn’t as hard as people think.

Personally, I would find it harder to wake up every morning feeling sluggish and icky and looking in the mirror and hating how I look and feel FAR more than I would find it hard to eliminate a food that is basically toxic to our body (in the amounts we now consume it).

Just Give Me The Gist!

Okay, now that I’ve told you a little bit about myself and what “diet” I am on. And I’ve given you some powerful information about what you may or may not be consuming now that is hurting you. Here’s the bottom line of what the best diet is if you want to lose weight (and KEEP IT OFF…FOREVER!)

1) Eat fresh, whole foods
2) Eliminate Sugar
3) Elminiate wheat and dairy

Wheat is not a bad thing necessarily. The problem with wheat is that in the U.S. it is not a wheat our body can process. It has been modified too much and it is no longer something our body recognizes and can break down. This isn’t the case over in Europe.

Dairy is just riddled with hormones. Hence, my anger I would imagine. And it is so easy to change your eating habits and no longer consume dairy. There are really great alternatives. My favorite is Almond Milk and Almond Yogurt. And I used to hate goat cheese, but now – if you find a good one, Goat Cheese is sooooo good. I no longer miss the other kind of cheese, and trust me cheese was a HUGE part of my diet before.

So, I can and I can’t say…I can eat whatever I want. I can actually say that, because I no longer WANT to eat the foods I shouldn’t. To someone else, me avoiding the cake at a birthday party might seem like I’m depriving myself. But I’m not. I’m choosing to feel good. I have actually found really great gluten free and low sugar or no sugar alternatives to pastries and cookies and breads. I plan adding to this website all of the great recipes I discover or create myself πŸ™‚ So yeah, I might not eat their cake. But I DO eat cake!!

For more information about the “diet” that changed my life and has left me skinnier, healthier and happier than I’ve ever been before, read The UltraMind Solution by Dr. Mark Hyman. Dr. Hyman has great advice and recipes using the best foods to lose weight.

Don’t let the name fool you. The book is full of great information to cure a multitude of issues as you’ll see if you pick it up. And the basis for all of these so-called “cures” – your diet!

And please if you have any questions or comments feel free to leave them below or contact me here. If you need motivation to lose weight, I’m your gal πŸ™‚
